Just a little preamble...

I remember sitting in a damp, cold and overly noisy classroom at primary school (a church school no less) and reading Witches by Roald Dahl. I was completely absorbed by this fantastically obscene world created by the author, the humorous and yet slightly sinister characters and the fast paced plot that reeled you in with every urgently delivered paragraph. Fast forward a few years and Stephen King had the same effect on me; the town of Derry, Maine becoming my second home while I read and re-read IT, and Castle Rock being a place I would often visit while keeping one eye out for that evil dog, Cujo or the dangerous gang that set off after River Phoenix and Corey Feldman in Stand By Me (aka the Body).

It was those tales and that style that drove me to self-publish my own crime/horror novel 'Pale Face & the Raven' in 2019 and follow that up with my horror/sci fi/fantasy short story collection 'The Maidens of Fey and Other Dark Matter' just a few, short months later. If you, like me, are fascinated by the weird, the dark, the mysterious and the abstract then hopefully you'll find me right up your street. If you don't then you probably won't, but that's fine too. Each to their own, live and let live, let sleeping dogs lie and all that, but hopefully one day you'll realise you're wrong and you'll come crawling unashamedly back.

For those of you that remain with me (for which I thank you unreservedly) check out my published works from the links on this website. Or, if you just fancy a quick dose of honest storytelling, go ahead and take a look at some of my flash fiction on the free reads page of this website - it won't cost you a penny, and you never know, you might just enjoy it. Just like I did when I took a leap into the addictive prose of Roald, Mr King, that Californian guy named Koontz and all those other authors who like to tempt you in with tales of ordinary, mundane life that can suddenly and unexpectedly turn on a sixpence.

I hope you enjoy what you see, and should you enjoy what you read (or even if you don't) I would love to hear from you.

Thanks, and safe reading,

SD
